(2000) 5.5"x8.6" Mask, watercolors, varnish.
I bought the basic white mask many years ago during the carnival in Venice and did nothing much with it. However a few years ago I really became fascinated by R.H. Giger's art, and somehow that led me to wonder what would happen if you could make his style into "wearable art". Unfortunately I do not own an airbrush, which is his weapon of choice, and to get an approximation of his amazing effects with watercolors and a tiny sable brush took a lot of time. The effects are mainly taken from a series of photomanips Giger did for an album for Debbie Harry and two of his biomechanical paintings. I am quite pleased with the final result and have worn the mask on occasion, purely as an hommage, of course. |
