Briar Rose

(2015), 2" x 3" for the pendant, 18" for overall length of the necklace, silver clay (cut, carved, fired, antiqued, polished and burnished), silver bezel wire, silver wire, carved rose bone cab, emerald beads, green Chalcedony briolette, silver beads, fireline, silver clasp finding, green ink.

This is a sister piece to another carved bone cab of a white rose that I got about a two years ago from Etsy. I dyed this one with green ink to give the carving some depth and combined the piece with some vibrant faceted emerald beads and a soft green Chalcedony drop at the bottom of the pendant.

The green colors and floral vibes of the pendant reminded me of the fairy story of the Briar Rose or Sleeping Beauty, at rest in her lair protected by vines and tendrils.

I like the fact that you can take what's essentially the same center-piece in two such different directions.
