Artist's Comments

(2006) 3' x 5' Stained glass (blue swirl, amber swirl, opalescent white, wavy clear), copper foil, lead solder, steel rods.

Well, this got finally finished yesterday. It is my biggest and my most intricate piece so far and the first of a projected 5 windows to fill the five front-facing windows of our home.

The white rose on blue is the coat of arms of the English county of Yorkshire, my husband's birth-place. Next I will do North-Rhine Westphalia in Germany (my original neck of the woods), then the arms of England and Germany where I will probably take some artistic license as the simple Cross of St. George and the basic black, red and gold bars of the German flag are kind of boring - I'm thinking lions and eagles instead. And the last flag will have to be Texas for our newly elected home...

It will probably keep me busy for a looong time to go. This sucker ate up 9 rolls of lead wire (that's a LOT!)

what, you were expecting something witty here?

Nice! All the colors go so well together, and I love all the curvy lines (that probably made your work a lot harder ^^;). I like how all the swirls at the top remind me of a pair of abstract women holding the helmet up above the shield, with their hair flowing behind them and dresses billowing. ^..^

How are women and tornadoes alike?

They both moan like hell when they come, and take the house when they leave.

maaaaaaaaan Elly this is so cool...when you get all the windows in place (and many lead rolls later lol) I wanna see a pic from the outside to see how it looks from the street. I bet it is going to be so beautiful! Will you put the windows in yourself or have a glazier to do it?
