(2016), 9"x12", pencil on paper.

Time for another "dragon". This one is a male Jackson's chameleon in a threat display. Male chameleons have three horns which make them look a little like miniature Triceratops dinosaurs. They are native to Kenya and Tanzania but are now widely available in the pet trade and have been released in Hawaii where they live in the wild and are rather hard on native snail species which they swallow up hole.

Unlike most other chameleon species, Jackson's give birth to live young and can live up to 10 years in captivity.

Thank you! One of my best friends from school had a pair of Jackson's Chameleons, and I always thought they were so cool!

Oh wow! Chameleons are not the most forgiving of reptiles if you get their husbandry wrong, though I love them, just beautiful visually and such interesting personalities! Thanks!

No they are not forgiving as a species. I raised and bred them for 8 years. Many batches of babies, many times I would only get 9-12 babies to adulthood.. from a large birthing of 23 babies at a time! I love them!

Thanks so much! It's really down to practice. I've drawn a lot of reptiles at this point.

Thank you! I love how chameleons always manage to look grumpy, like they just woke up after a rough night...
