Fan-Tastic II by Ellygator Fan-Tastic II by Ellygator
(2010), peacock sword, body and eye feathers, black rooster tail feathers, cardboard, glue, green satin fabric, beads (triangle, size 15, 11 and 8 seed beads and delicas in black, gold and metal tones), freshwater pearls, nylon thread, eye-closure.

This is a companion piece to Fan-Tastic I [link] Peacock sword feathers form a swirl as the first layer of feathers glued to a cardboard backing covered with green satin on the other side. They are then layered with black rooster tail feathers, peacock eye feathers, a light circle of delicate blue-green body feathers and finished with a brick-stitch circle featuring a variety of seed beads and pearls.

In the bead design I picked up elements of the feather arrangement, such as the swirling motion of the sword feathers and the straight gold accents of the eye feathers.

The circle can be hung from the wall by a small hook sewn to the back of the cardboard backing.

Elly, dear, this is magnificent! I can picture it at the base of low-backed dress, or even adorning/clasping an elaborate up-dp (perhaps of the Peacock Queen?). I realize it's size would be ungainly for the latter, but I've often thought that your beading and jewelry skills would lend themselves well to hair ornaments.

Should you receive the white peacock feathers you anticipated, it would be interesting if you made a duplicate piece--kind of a peacock sun and moon duo.

Thanks so much! In fact this baby is about 27 inches across, so it would be quite a piece of costume embellishment. However, a peacock-embellished barrette would probably be quite a pretty sight... If the white feather project comes to fruition, I shall certainly update here!
