For the Disk courts I haven't stuck with a family, but instead picked characters that I feel have a strong Earth element connection in the books. They are either good with plants and animals or have a tendency to keep the folks around them grounded in reality when they take off on - particularly Gryffindor - flights of fancy... So of course who else could be the King of Disks but Hagrid taking care of his beloved dragon baby, Norbert. I decided to have him hold the egg as a substitute for the traditional disk and put him into the homely and earthy environment of his hut ("You call this a - house?" - Lucius Malfoy in COS) known for the hazards of slobbering Fang, rock cakes and sudden tea spills... The King of Disks is defined as a no-nonsense person, a realist who knows his strengths and weaknesses, he is not mislead by wishes and dreams and is absolutely trustworthy. However, sometimes he's a tad inflexible and heavy-handed. Tact and polite niceties are not his forte. He gives it to you straight - together with the shirt off his back should you need it. |
