Hommage a Monetby *Ellygator

Artisan Crafts / Jewelry / Necklaces & Pendants

(2011), 3" x 2.5", silver clay (shaped, carved, fired, enameled, burnished), vitreous enamel, silver wire, London topaz beads, brown cultured pearls, silver beads, silver finding, art glass bead, fireline.

This pendant owes its existence partly to the suggestion of

, who gave me the idea to try something along the lines of Monet's water lilies in enamels. I gave it a whirl, and for once the colors came out exactly as expected.

The little miniature image of a white water lily had quite vibrant notes, so I finished the whole ensemble with the unusual combination of a solitary earth-colored art glass bead, some faceted, sky-blue London topaz and some brown pearls to play on the aquatic theme of the piece.

I think this is one of my favourite pieces of yours so far!
But then that might be partially because Monet is one of my favourite painters in all of art history...

Still, you really did an amazing job with this! The shape of the pendant frames that little snippet of a scene perfectly. I think Art Nouveau and Impressionism really meld well here. I think perhaps you should try combining these styles again sometime...

Very pretty enameling. Can we expect to see each phase of the change in light like Monet's waterlilies collection?

I guess that would be very impressive as a collection, but probably not viable for one's sanity.
It's a lovely shaped pendant too.
