(2005) 3.5"x1" for the knotwork panels, 18" overall length. Silver Art Clay, liver of sulphur, amber beads, 18 and 20 gauge silver wire, silver findings.
I made the knotwork dogs from a design I lifted off an Anglo-Saxon manuscript illumination. The silver clay was dried, fired, blackened and polished with a wire brush and burnisher.
I continued with the Viking theme by combining the silver panels with amber beads and attaching chains that look a bit like Viking knit wirework. The chains are made from 20 gauge silver wire using an assembly pattern called Foxtail chain.
The whole piece has a very satisfying heavy feel to it, like you are lugging some serious wealth - just like a Viking queen should have!
Very cool ! Those reserved parts in the design just scream for enamels *nudgenudge* but how does silver clay react ? Isn't it a tad porous for enamels ?
Anyway, just wow, beautiful

damn you're off and running with that clay. have i said recently how hideously jealous i am of your talent? i can just picture it, 'sorry i'm late for work but the kiln wasn't quite finished baking yet...'
and being a nerd, i think rohan. more specifically, that would be the start for a serious kickass eowyn costume. or just an excuse to go out on the town to show it off
i have no idea why i'm thinking i'd like green with this too. i mean, amber makes sense. fits with the nordic bit. maybe amethyst? isn't that found up there too?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
