(2011) 9"x 3", Size 15 seed beads (cream-lined crystal, matte metallic slate, gold-lined crystal, transparent purple iris), yellow jade beads, polyester thread.

This is an inversion of the "Palmetto Gold" pattern.

The palmetto fronts now face inwards toward each other instead of outwards and give the bracelet an interesting cinched shape towards the center, which is accented with some yellow jade beads to bring out the subtle golden accents embedded in the off-white pattern.

For this design as well as its sister-pattern I have to acknowledge the fabulous tattoo designs by :iconkarlozart: as a wonderful inspiration!

While I prefer the bolder colors of the original bracelet, there is something to be said for the more subtle tones of this one, particularly the dark blue/purple that melts so easily into the browns. The purples lend a touch of coolness, making the warm browns cool in turn, providing some very interesting neutrals. Unlike its predecessor, this bracelet could be worn with a great number of simple-toned things. The yellow jade seems a bit bright in the initial photo, but certainly compliments well the tanned skin of the wearer. The jade is what really makes this a warm piece, for a warm-toned person--any other color, and it would be a different concoction entirely. If you make a cooler (as in color, not as in "Rad, man!") version, I would suggest trading the gold for more purple. Deep tones of purple and brown compliment each other splendidly, and they would allow you to play with/innovate the design yet again.

Thank you! I love your observations regarding color! Picking the beads for a design is always a very intuitive process for me - really there is only one simple rule I always follow: bring a dark pattern outline to a bright background and vice versa, other than that I kind of just keep fingering bead sachets and tubes until three or four stay in my hands and seem to feel right... Accent beads often get selected even later than that.

With this pattern I think I may go for a repeat with a different mix - just as there actually exist three different versions of the original Palmetto - the posted one, a seafoam green and bone white one and a dark matte brown on silver-lined amethyst one... The pattern just does not seem to want to let go of me yet...
