(2009) 9"x 3.5", Size 15 seed beads (matte and glossy black, matte and glossy metallic green iris) Delicas (glossy black, matte metallic green iris, 14k rose gold), size 15 hex beads (glossy black), Sternocera aequisignata wings, green and black dichroic glass bead, nylon thread.

This one was a new technique and experiment for me and was quite labor intensive. The whole wings-and-paisley arrangement is mounted on a netted bracelet made from matte black and green size 15 seed beads for stability. I then used brick stitch to make the paisley-shaped picot-edged "frames" for the beetle wings, drilled holes in the wings to stitch them to the netted bracelet and fastened the paisleys over and around them. I then stitched extra wings into the gaps between the paisleys to hide the netting in the background.

The closure for the bracelet is a green dichro bead with the same intense green iridescence as the beetle wings. I really love the intense metallic shimmer and the somewhat organic feel of the varied paisley shapes

Beetle wings? Aren't they fragile? Did you collect the beetles?

Ok weird questions. Just things that make me go hmmm I guess. Pretty bracelet.

You really stepped into a higher level of craftmanship here.. I hope it's a path you'll follow, it has a distinct flavour of Art Nouveau and Baroque artistry ! Gorgeous ! Don't you ever dream of making a whole dress with delica beads ? ;)

The wings are pretty sturdy. I was quite surprised. I had to use a dremel to drill them. I got the wings on ebay from a company in Thailand. They use a species of local jewel beetle that's not endangered (which was important to me!)

Very beautiful. I have a pair of earrings from the same exact beetle and well know the intense shimmer and play of color. Your piece here has been crafted with extreme loving care as always, and has a great harmony of color and shape.
