Sandbox Intrigue by Ellygator Sandbox Intrigue by Ellygator
(2010) 9"x 3", Size 15 seed beads (cream-lined crystal, matte metallic olive, matte metallic green-gold, metallic green gold) dalmatian jasper beads, art glass beads, polyester thread

Just having fun with some new Toho seed beads. I love the green-gold metallic beads they produce. Tohos don't seem to be as ubiquitous in the US as Miyukis, but lovely and uniform in size in an array of striking colors and finishes. Definitely worth taking a little more time finding them!

In Dallas The Artful Bead in Carrollton carries a decent selection, and online Beads East [link] is a good bet.

I did a kind of photo progression for a similar bracelet here: [link] Also if you look in my scraps [link] you'll find a few free patterns and more detailed information on how to make increasing and decreasing peyote (which is the technique you need to know for these bracelets).

I've always been a big user of miyuki, so I'm quite used to their colors and textures - they still have the biggest palette and they will always be my mainstay. in quality they are really as good as the tohos. However tohos have some colors and textures that I haven't seen before, so they will be some welcome additions, I believe. In matsunos I love the silver-lined square hole ones, because of the fabulous glitter they have.

Thanks so much, the 15s are really fabulous - so small they almost take all the pixellation out of a pattern.

"Sidewinder" was actually the title that came into my head when I first saw this piece, as the colors, pattern, and bead texture all make for a very serpentine impression. I can't look at it without thinking of the reptile winding its way along the sand, leaving curling patterns behind to match those of its skin.

I'm normally not one for neutral color schemes, but this is exceedingly lovely and warm, as one would expect a shifting dune to be. The art glass beads add just enough color, and their spot of blue really brings out the golden brown and slight iridescence of the other beads. Indeed, it brings to mind the vibrant blue of a desert sky. Well done as always, Elly!

PS--With luck, your lion should arrive this Friday--unless, of course, he takes a detour to your neighbor's!

Thank you! I should have run this one by you first - love your title much better than mine, and the serpentine feel is definitely there in the tangled snake-tails!

I will keep my eyes peeled for your parcel - and if the Browns at the other house get their mitts on it - there will be war and bloodshed! Though recently the PO has been fairly good in delivering properly. Maybe they finally hired a sorter with a brain between their ears!

After "Illumination," I owed you a title--now we're square!

Thank you again for choosing the winning numbers for my print giveaway. I've announced the results, should you care to see the consequences of your actions: [link] You're welcome to choose the next two rounds of numbers if you like, or I can pester someone else so that you can play, too. Really, it comes down to finding someone who doesn't want to try for the prints as is thus impartial to the results.

LOL! What a well-adorned amazon you would be, your battle yell emanating from behind the beguiling, golden face of your peacock mask!

Thank you! I stumbled on a small dish of art glass beads at my local store - all of the beads were beautiful and unique and the artist didn't want more than between 1 or 2 dollars for each. I know how much work they are so at least I bought a whole lot to make sure she at least got some money. They'll most likely be popping up all over the place in my bracelets now...

Seriously?! You are one lucky beader! Actually I may ask you to pretty please spy for me one of these days. I am in dire need of two bead colors to finish a project. The problem with the online store is that they don't change the website when they are out of a color. They just let you order as normal, then, if they can't provide one color they just credit that amount back on Paypal, but they won't let on when the color is back in stock.

If you are willing to pop in some time in the new year (and I know what I'm asking - always dangerous!), I'd love to send you the two color codes in question, and perhaps the staff can tell you when I may have a chance getting them in my next order...

Yeah, no problem. And it isn't a major temptation. I can check codes or pick up something if they have it in their physical inventory. I don't go in there often because I had an issue with a batch of beads and was displeased with their handling of it. And I'm spoiled by getting my cabs closer to wholesale prices ;)
