(2004) Oil on canvas, 45' x 34'

Again hooked on some elemental art...

This one was done for the fire-place in our living-room. I wanted something with punchy colors that provided a focal point for the muted blues and greens we have going on in the rest of the room.

its a beautiful pattern Elly... reminds me of some southern North American Indian art... I really like the painted frame too! :)

*looks exasperated* is there anything you can't do?! :p

very funky, sort of a southwestern style but with much brighter colors. the sun is striking with all the twisties, but it's those bubbles i'm digging. you shaded them so well, and the color...they look chasable :D

one for sorrow, two for joy
three for a girl, four for a boy
five for silver, six for gold
seven for a secret, never to be told...

It's just oil on canvas, but in thin glazes, so the white of the canvas actually "illuminates" the colors from behind (if that makes any sense). It allows for more brilliance than if you use the medium in a thicker cover. I also used a bit of gold leaf on the "sun".

Thanks!

Yeah, real fire in water would make for some serious steam. LOL!
:iconellygator:
Thanks! Loved doing the bubbles. I was first unsure if something non-abstract would work with the overall composition, but now am pleased I went for it.

Thanks! Wish I'd done the frame, but that was a lucky find at the local Hobby Lobby store. I thought it would make a perfect match.

It's a great effect, it was the illumination that made me ask and that's an interesting technique that patently works extremely well. Stops the painting looking too physically heavy.
