I've just revisited this, since I look so much at it lately... Smilla died in September, unexpectedly at the beginning of anaesthesia for a routine procedure (removal of dental calculus). She was 14 years old, but in the best of health and without any signs of age yet. I've never been more glad to have this wonderful picture of her.
