The 4 Elemental Beasts - Bull

(2003-4) 3'x1.5' Stained glass, copper foil, glass cabs and lead solder.

This is the second in a series of four windows that decorate the arches of our living-room windows. It depicts the spirit of Taurus which is represented as a rearing bull. The window stands for the element of earth, the compass direction of the north, the attributes of cold and ariditiy and the season of winter.

If you happen to be a Christian by belief and see all the windows together, you'll be reminded of the symbols for the 4 Evangelists - another beautiful piece of synergy between the pagans and their successors... I believe the bull stands for St. Luke.

I tried to get a feel of the "earthiness" of the bull by using opaque alabaster glass for the background.
