My artist for this journal is

:icondonsimpson:

In keeping with my contest theme I'd like to feature an artist here, whose gallery is an amazing show-case of work that transforms natural objects into beautiful talismans of ancient cultures and obscure cults. Every one of his carvings seem to glow with its own arcane power.

Well, the votes are in for the 2009 contest, and the winner is - with 29% of the votes - "Totem". However, another 131 deviants (27%) voted for "Mysterious Objects" and therefore I decided to combine both themes. So here's the information about the contest, which is now officially open:

Contest Topic: Do you have an affinity for a particular animal, someone you may consider a guardian, or a kindred spirit? Are you fascinated by everyday objects - keys, marbles, clocks, stones - that hold a special significance for you? For this contest, I want to know!

Techniques: Draw, sculpt, knit, photograph, flame-work, fractal-program, render, paint, wire-work, bead, smith your totem or your mysterious object. This contest will allow all visual techniques and media. The only art form excepted is the written word, because it would make submissions hard to compare against one another.

Timing: The contest is open as of today, March 10th, 2009 and will run all the way through to the Summer Solstice on June 21st, 2009.

Rules:
You can make up to three submissions.
Each submission must have been produced for this contest and made after today's date.
Please indicate in your submission comments that the submission was made for this contest, then note me with a link to your artwork.
I will display your artwork as a thumbnail in this journal and add to it as new submissions are brought to my attention.

Prizes:
1. Prize: 1 year subscription to DA and a bead bracelet (wing-bracelet) or HP Tarot deck
2. Prize: 1/2 year subscription to DA and a bead bracelet (wing-bracelet) or HP Tarot deck
3. Prize: 1/2 year subscription to DA

Judges:
I will judge the submissions in the only way art can really be judged: entirely subjectively! However, if someone is prepared to add to the prizes that I offer, I will also give them a chance to judge. If you would like to be a judge on this contest, please note me with the prizes you are willing to give to the winner(s) and shamelessly pimp this contest in your journal, and I will contact you when the time comes to pick out our top three contestants.

You know, Elly, I think I might actually give it a try. Even though with such a theme 3D art (sculptures, carvings, anything) would be much more powerful, and all I can do is draw, the theme is more than interesting. I think I voted for Totems after all :P

I will be all too happy to submit work. I would also be happy to be a judge.
Can we do both in one? A totem animal related mysterious object?
:iconheterodyning:
Oooh! I might just have to do this!

So I CAN do a poem or prose? Or no?

:iconellygator:
Unfortunately no - only visual art allowed. Not because I don't like the written word, just because it would be hard to compare a poem for example to a picture.
