A big "thank you!" goes out to all my judges, who worked very quickly and diligently after the contest closed last month to vote for their winners. Depending on which place they picked for their choices I assigned points (3 for first place, 2 for second place, and 1 for third place) and added up the points once everyone, including myself had cast their votes. So without further ado, here are our winners:
1st place for a total of 10 points:
by Some of the judges' comments:
"The way the artist uses values in this piece is amazing." (ArtisticAunJuli)
"A fantastic representation of an ancient realm. I am drawn to so many aspects of this image. The amount of detail and precision in this work has me in awe. The details - I can't get over the details! There is so much texture and life that just seem to pour out of the canvas. I can't tell if it is a modern reference to a fallen culture (going on what I interpret as a broken mask or relic of some sort) or if it is referencing the culture in a time of prosperity (an artifact left outside an active city). No matter your interpretation, you can immediately tell this is tribute to an ancient culture. There is a lot of emotion; in ancient times nature was clean and practically untouched. Great composition and execution - a wonderful piece overall." (SterlingDragon78)
"This is just pure joy technically spoken. but if you take the time to look a little longer its not boring. it radiates a certain peace, fits the theme and expertly drawn. just fantastic." (green-envy-designs)
2nd place for a total of 8 points:
by Some of the judges' comments:
"Quite an original take on the theme! I really like this piece." (SterlingDragon78)
"I feel this piece is somewhat humorous but also to the point and an original display of the theme." (green-envy-designs)
3rd place for a total of 6 points:
by Some of the judges' comments:
"This is a fabulous piece of art. The necklace is intricate and beautiful, and it just FEELS like it belongs from an Ancient Realm. I can easily picture this in a variety of places on a variety of people. Stunning." (ArtisticAunJuli)
"Combinations of ancient realm references brought into newer times through the words and work of this artist. Quite brilliant really. The colors themselves make me think of something that would have been made ages ago; delicate and earthy with a splash here and there of brighter colors. The apocalyptic reference in the cabochon makes it a quite intriguing focal piece. The scarabs, the Chinese knots, the bones, the stitches themselves - all brought together to create one piece to tribute ancient realms." (SterlingDragon78)
Works that also got votes, but didn't accrue as many points as the winners:

I would also like to single out the following submissions for an honorable mention, because of the historical research and/or the care that went into making them:

I am noting the winners separately with the commitment list of prizes that I got from the judges and other DA friends. Thank you again for your wonderful and generous donations!
I truly loved the contest and would like to thank everyone who participated with their wonderful art! It's been a true joy to see all of your inspirations from ancient times and ancient realms!
