This journal feature showcases a fabulous jewelry artist, who I have been watching for a while. I finally got myself one of her marvelous and very original "twiddle rings". Love her feeling for the natural properties of sheet metal, the subtle work with textures and stone accents and her absolute commitment to precision and solid craftsmanship.

Unfortunately I can't post the actual bracelet in question yet, because of copyright issues, but I collaborated with a German beading magazine to include one of my wing bracelet designs as a project in their latest edition. If you can grab a copy, and you've always wondered how these bracelets work step-by-step, this will answer all the questions.

The year has started fairly quietly otherwise. A few art projects, a lot going on at work, but the money is good, and I have been able to treat myself to a few splurges. My latest acquisition is the peridot-set "twiddle ring" from the deviant featured above. I am also working on a brooch vs Narcissa doll art trade, which I shall feature when it's complete.

Oh, and anyone seen the price of silver art clay recently? When I started it was about $50 for 50 grams. I needed to submit a new order yesterday and they're up to $100 per 50 grams. Damn the world economy! Does everyone really have to invest in precious metals these days?! We're looking at a 100% price hike in about 4 years. I wish my 401k was doing that well...

Unfortunately it seems to be a bit of a shoestring operation, so nope... But I'm due a "care packet" from family anyway...

Oh, what a shame. That seems rather basic to me. Good that you have family there (where exactly? most of mine is in Schleswig-Holstein in cities along the Baltic Coast).

I love the north, both North Sea and Baltic Sea coast and I do miss the northern seas here in the middle of Texas like crazy. My folks are from Westfalen, near Dortmund, not so nice because of all of the heavy industry around that area... My brother and sister moved a little south and are now both living in the Frankfurt area.

Hey, congrats on the collaboration. You're a worldwide phenom. (Course, I suppose technically you were already, but now you're in print!)

And regarding metal prices, that's the main reason there hasn't been much from me. I'm mostly out of silver and totally out of gold fill and can't afford to get more. So copper it is for now ;)

Have you considered playing with bronze clay? I don't know if you can bake the two together for a two tone look.

I hear you! I may look into bronze, I just don't wear a lot of yellow metal outside of a few rings I have that are made from gold, so it will be a change...

*coughs* I'm actually typing this statement from :deviconearthenweargems: who is over my shoulder at the moment.

Where are you looking at buying your silver clay? Yet at the price you said, be greatful you're not paying for pure silver like I do 80% of the time. It's even worse...

And a word from myself... Congrats on the publication!

Thank you. Because I am working mostly with slow-dry Silver Art Clay I purchase from Artclayworld, Firemountain has clay that's a little cheaper, but they don't carry slow dry...

Have you tried looking into Gesswin or Rio Grande? I know one of them carries various kinds.
