I haven't done a proper artist feature here in a while, so for this entry it's all about

:iconsyprina:

She has a beautifully polished and accomplished jewelry style showing great respect for her materials and excellent craftsmanship, and her serpent jewelry would do any Slytherin proud. Give her some love, people. She deserves way more than 2211 pageviews.

Well, I didn't make this up, I swear! I saw this in a parking lot outside of "Love and War in Texas" in Plano yesterday evening. I didn't make up the cool name for that restaurant, either!

Anyway, while I don't think the Malfoys are driving a flame red Toyota or consume Shiner bock and hot wings at a Texas honkytonk, I totally want a sticker now! www.goats.com has them, their motto: "fictional elections deserve fictional characters".

Oh and while I am not making any kind of political statement whatsoever here, of course if you live in the US of A, get your butt down to the voting booth when the time comes. At least that way the crap that will go down here in the next 4 years will have been partially your fault as well.

Remember what my grandmother said: "Politicians are like diapers. You need to change them out once in a while."

Oh man, that IS a funny sticker! (Even though I have Republican sympathies.)
I prefer the Reynolds/Washburne ticket, myself. Possibly the Roslin/Adama one as well.

Yeah, I could get behind those pairings myself - both awesome series!

one of the greatest strengths of both the series is, the overall metaphors/themes/overtones and undertones and therefore the experience of watching, will be different for each viewer, depending on what he/she brings to the equation. Unlike many other 'allegory' shows, whose not-so-thinly-veiled message is usually merely 'hey, let's take our flawlessly objective perception of a real-life situation and SUBSTITUTE DIFFERENT NAMES FOR EVERYTHING and call it a powerful episode that makes you think!'

How can something make us think, deeplly consider, if the 'meaning', the 'message' of something is clearly intended as only one thing, and that one thing is being forced into our metaphorical hands?

I think that's a very insightful observation, and one that explains why both series really don't get old even when watching episodes multiple times - the perception one walks away with is subtly different every time, because new things come into focus that were ignored before.

I also think a powerful appeal has to do with the fact that the characters in both shows are flawed and profoundly human - they have strengths and weaknesses, scars and blind spots, but are also not taking themselves too seriously and are capable of reaching beyond themselves. It's a refreshing change from good vs. bad or just superhumanly tortured characters who seem eternally in love with their angst...

Yes, and yes! Like in the earlier episodes of Firefly, how prejudiced Mal is toward Simon, and how jerky that tended to make him, because Simon used to be rich. Every time I watch those episodes I get annoyed with Mal. Or how unreasonably angry Zoe gets in Our Mrs. Reynolds with Mal and Wash. Even as these characters can irritate me, I LOVE that the writers are able to do that with these people I love!

Yeah, I think that's what makes them "real" just like you could love your brother and sister to death, but sometimes you just want to smack them over the head for being such a jerk...

Yeah Naomi! As a near and dear personal friend back from college, I have to say you couldn't have picked a more talented and intelligent artist to feature!

Glad you like her feature. I'm happy you know her personally!

Yes, lol she and I go way back. Belly dance and circus comrades, long nights studying in the library, traveling together, jewelry slumber parties. She's definitely one of my absolute favorite people

Thanks again!
