It's been a while since I've done a journal feature singling out an individual artist, but for the last few months I've truly enjoyed watching the art of

:iconamarenostyle:

Their jewelry has a well-balanced classical feel with just the right admixture of whimsical, ethnic and organic elements to make each of their pieces individual and unique, but still very wearable and versatile. I love their inspired use of stone mixtures as well. Oh, and the presentation - just flawless!

After we've had to endure two separate weeks of severely cold temperatures for Texas and some ice and snow as well, it looks like the weather is giving us a break right now. Temperatures are in the upper 60s, and I for one am not complaining. I've just finished a miserable 10 days of some kind of weird cold that settled on my eyes and gave me a nasty bout of conjunctivitis, so I am glad I can finally see again and go outside.

The yard of course is a total train-wreck after all the freezing temperatures and some plants like my gardenias and jasmines are a total write-off this year, so I'm spending my weekend split between carving some silver clay pieces and attacking my frost-corpses with my trusty rose snippers.

Posting's been a little slow for me, but that's because I am putting so much time into a bead-embroidered evening bag. I am working on the back panel right now, and I think it will be quite stunning when it's done. But it's seriously eaten up thousands and thousands of beads, and weeks and weeks worth of time, so most other projects have been languishing.

Work is good - just had a client contract extended till the end of May, which is fabulous, and I am working on a few training assignments in between So far this year looks very promising. Hopefully we're done with cold snaps as well, and can look forward to spring now!

Thank you so much! It's finally worn off, though it had a sting in its tail settling briefly on my stomach before it finally took its leave. Not much fun!

Sorry you're back to cold. I hope our current warm spell is here to stay - or at least there will be no more cold snaps. Some of the trees in the neighborhood are already starting to bud. They'd all freeze.

Glad you are feeling better, and yes, I'm with *mmstudios, I look forward to seeing this bag that has taken up so much of your efforts.

And yes, we DFW people have been thru odd weather this year. Almost 80° ... beautiful. BUT .... I'm not going to hold my breath considering what happened to me last spring. I thought we were done with the cold then too and went camping in the weekend of March 20th (real camping... tents and sleeping bags) and BAM we got a Texas blizzard. Not fun. SO.... yeah I'll hope for the best, because I too have some plants that have decided to pop up out of the ground and some yard that needs attending to. I also have camping plans I'd like to make. SO...

Good to hear things are going well for you! :D

Yikes! Camping in blizzard weather, that's pretty harsh! I guess Dallas is always good for the odd March "surprise", but I really hope that it's over for this year - the Bradford pears around the neighborhood are already coming out with green shoots! It would be a shame if they all froze.

Glad you hear you like camping! I've been making plans with my husband, too, to pack up the tent and hit one of the lakes that has a few hiking trails. Spring is really so perfect for that - summer can sometimes be a bit of a drag...

I have a friend who owns land in East Texas, which is where I tend to camp most times. Its called Armadillo Acres. She is working on getting it set up for open camping but that won't happen for another year or two. However, there are several events that are hosted on the land that I try to attend, or at least attempt a work weekend or two. One of the events is called Mischeivia which is similar to a mini "Burning Man" (the huge burn that happens out in Arizona each year). Plus we also just have little gatherings of like minded folks that get together sometimes out there for solstices and such. Its a good way to get away without having to go too far.

Wow! That sounds like great fun. Plus having a nice place to observe some of the sabbaths is a good thing. I think at the local park in a Dallas suburb, the Baptist neighbors would call the police on one...

Actually, you know, there has been a huge event every Summer Solstice at White Rock. I don't know if they are doing it again this year tho, Amy Martin has let go of the controlling factor and let others take over so I'm not sure. She focuses mainly on the Winter Solstice Event now. But yes, it is nice to have it where you don't have any chance of protesters. :D The local Pagan Pride Day event at the end of September tends to draw some of them, but usually not too bad. Have you ever gone to that? Great vending opportunity too!

I'm in Fort Worth so I definitely hear you on the crazy weather front. It's been nuts! Can't wait to see this evening bag you've been working on. It sounds fabulous.

Thanks so much! I'm getting there! Hope you didn't have to cope with any rolling brown-outs in FW. Some of our friends in Plano were cut off for like 7 hours flat. Their houses were in the 40s by the time the electricity came back on, and their pool pipes froze and burst. Really horrible!

You're very welcome!I did experience a bit of the black out, but generally for only 30 minutes at a time. Still ridiculous if you ask me. North Texas gets a random cold front that freezes things just about every February. You'd think our cities would be better prepared for this crap by now. This last bit of bad weather was certainly some of the worst we've had in ages, but still. X3
