With the Fall Equinox coming up on the 22nd I usually go ahead and do a Tarot reading for myself for the upcoming months. This time I decided to use my own Harry Potter deck for a spread that takes inspiration from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You don't need a Harry Potter themed deck to do this spread. Any favorite deck of Tarot cards will do.

Here's how you do a reading: write down your question or formulate it clearly in your mind. Place four cards , front down, in an open square before you - these represent the four Hogwarts houses. In the center of the square place two cards, one crossing the other. This represents the Great Hall, the outcome of the reading. Turn over your cards and look at their meaning in the context of the four houses first:

1. Griffindor: The card in this position tells you about your relationships and friendships, the people you are loyal to and who stand by your side. It tells you about the image others have of you or how you want others to see you. It also stands for your aspirations and goals.

2. Slytherin: The card here gives you insight into your secrets and dreams, it tells you about your shadow, the things you may be afraid of, ashamed of or unwilling to admit to. It illuminates your weaknesses or hidden desires.

3. Hufflepuff: This position will help you interpret your material situation, possessions, health, feeling of security, happiness and success.

4. Ravenclaw: The last card of the quadrant tells you about your mental focus, what is important to you, how you make sense of the world around you, what you understand and how you think through things, particularly the problem or situation about which you made the spread

5. and 6. The Great Hall: These two cards will help you see the outcome of your question. The upright card will show you the end result. The card that crosses it will show you obstacles you have to overcome. These obstacles can be your own mental blocks and attitude, they can also be outside influences you have to work through. They may reinforce or oppose some of the aspects of the cards you have uncovered in the House quadrants.

Very cool - I wish I understood tarot more - I have my deck packed away since I move so much - but I would love to have a reading and understand this better. Looks very interesting.
