Starting off the year with some fabulous new art - for this journal I'd like to feature an amazing craftsman, smith, carver and draughtsman:

:iconastalo:

I had a hard time already just picking out some of his wonderful jewelry and weapons work, but when you check his gallery you will find many more treasures. I love the way his work seems so in tune with and so respectful of his materials and the traditional smithing techniques he uses!

So after 14 days of family reunions and about 6 pounds heavier I am back in good old Texas and just about done finding more nooks and crannies to store this year's Christmas presents. We had a heck of a time convincing the check-in clerks to let me transport half a library and jewelry store without paying an arm and a leg in surcharges. The luggage for the way home was seriously overweight...

I spent one week in Germany with my folks playing in the snow and realizing I am not really that used to sub-zero temperatures any more, and one week walking around the Yorkshire dales in a futile attempt to work off all the Christmas fare while visiting my husband's family. Overall it was a very nice time.

For this year I really have not set myself any serious project goals regarding art, but will see where my inspiration takes me. I will most likely try some new designs and patterns for beading, do more silver clay involving meshing clay and wire-work and continue with drawing commissions. I am also thinking of working a bit more with landscape drawings which I have not done in a while - or just for backgrounds, and I also wouldn't mind working in color again at some point.

Having come back to nearly 1000 messages and 1000 new watched deviations I will also need to ask for your indulgence if I do not thank everyone individually for faving any of my art. I will acknowledge new watchers and answer questions and comments. I'll also try and work my way through all the new art, but if my replies and responses are a bit slow, please bear with me.

You've got all that talent & you're in TX? Are you anywhere near Austin?

Visited your husband's family, eh? I'm happy for you, but this is why I fly solo. Whenever I encounter a woman who has something to recommend her, she's already taken. If I believed in a god, I'd say he decided this state of affairs before I was born.

I'm a little further north in Dallas, though I do love Austin and would rather live there... Sorry to hear about your personal affairs. I've been together with my husband for 20 years, so we did meet fairly young. A lot of people my age now who are single and looking are fairly disheartened by trying to date. I hope you will still find someone who makes you happy.

Eh, I didn't tell you all that for pity. I just told it like it is. I have enough on my plate already without looking for a woman. A companion & bed partner would be nice, but first I gotta get my biz off the ground. It's priorities, you know? Besides, which would you find more attractive: A man struggling to start his own art/craft business, or a man who already has one up & running? Yeah, I thought so.

Hey, that makes sense. Both undertakings can really take 100% of one's time to get right!

Oh tell me about sub-zero temperatures, I spent some time with my father at north of country, and enjoy in snow from inside warm living room. No Jack Frost for me, thank you very much.
I am looking forward to see some of your work in color, specially landscapes.

I think it's been a record cold winter this year in Europe with a lot of East winds bringing Siberian cold. I like sun and summer better than cold winter... And yes, a nice fire inside while it's cold outside is fun!

You got me beat on messages but I'll wipe you out with deviation numbers. Huge thanks for the reversal of the message center now.

But it sounds like you've been busy as well.

Hey, that's reasonable. Nothing's more bothersome than beating oneself up over unkept resolutions, so going for the attainable and feeling good about it is so much better!
