Description
In the 10s all elements are subjected to full materialization. The 10s are dominated by the planet Earth. They are the most solid and crystallized manifestation of each suite.
For the element of Earth full materialization is the culmination of a natural development. We reap the harvest of all of our aspirations and efforts and it feels good. This is not just related to outer success and riches, but also signifies a sense of inner wealth and well-being, of feeling mature and secure in who we are.
The Rider Waite deck shows us a complex and highly patterned scene where we see a man, woman and child and two white dogs through the archway of a castle adorned with various bits of heraldry. In front of the archway sits an old bearded man in a rich embroidered mantle stroking one of the dogs while the child touches the other one. Superimposed on the scene are 10 gold coins in a tree-of-life arrangement. The Thoth shows the same design minus the people and scenery: 10 golden coins for each of the 10 emanations before a rich purple background. With the Ten of Disks the element of Earth has reached Malkuth, the final place of active, earthly manifestation - and the Disks are in their very own plane of existence.
For my own card I wanted to show the little seedling of the 9 of Earth grown to full maturity and providing a rich harvest. 10 thick clusters of grapes hang between the leaves of an old, gnarled vine that is firmly rooted in the earth.
In a spread the 10 of Earth means a situation is reaching its fullest material potential. We enjoy a sense of deep physical security: good health, the means to provide for ourselves and our loved ones and a feeling that we have found our place, are respected by those around us, know we are capable in our undertakings and guided by the traditions of those who have come before us.
For a relationship-related question the card may indicate you are poised to become the next power-couple. You work as a team and nothing stands in the way of your success. You are not afraid to show what you have and others may even envy you for all of your achievements. If it's something that would make you happy you may even look forward to an addition to your family. It could also indicate a joyful event that will bring all of your extended family together for a celebration.
If the card comes up for a business-related question you can look forward to success and wealth. Some of it may even come to you through a stroke of luck, perhaps an inheritance that will provide for you and your loved ones or an investment that outperforms all of your expectations.
If the card is uncovered in an adverse or blockage position it could mean that you are in danger of getting trapped by your wealth and getting dull, lazy and bored. What you have may seem stale to you as you lose your appreciation for it and forget how lucky you are. Alternatively you may value material wealth too much, which can make you greedy and afraid to lose what you have while you forget that there is also emotional and spiritual wealth. You may be so trapped in your need to feel materially secure that you forget to also be free.
