The court cards are leaving space for a number of interpretations in a spread. Often they are read as actual people having an impact on the querent's life, who share characteristics of the element they are associated with and hold a certain social or familial "rank". However, they can also be aspects of the querent's personality that either define him or her or that are currently suppressed.
The Rider Waite deck shows us a crowned woman in flowing yellow robes sitting on a throne flanked by lions. She holds a sunflower in her left hand and a wand in her right. At her feet sits a black cat. In the Thoth deck a woman with long golden hair and a flame-colored mantle is seated high above the viewer making her feet and legs appear enormous and her face quite remote and small. She is crowned with a spiked headdress of sun-rays and holds a wand in her left while a leopard is perched before her.
For my own card I chose a mature Masai woman wearing the wealth of her elaborate beaded jewelry and ornaments. She faces the viewer openly and calmly, but does not smile. Whoever approaches her will have to prove themselves to her.
In a spread the Mother of Fire signifies a powerful, self-confident and independent woman. She is passionate and charismatic and fiercely protective of those she cares about and to whom she freely gives her love, trust and strength. Cross her, however, and you will feel her anger. If she is challenged or slighted, her fury can be a force to be reckoned with.
For a relationship-related question the card may indicate that you are coming together with someone as equals. There is a lot of passion and heat between you and you are willing to take chances to follow your desire and attraction. You each enjoy the company of the other and others may even envy you for the power-couple that you are. You want it all and manage to find a good balance of success in your love, family and career. Exercise caution, however, when you feel that either you or your partner are becoming too possessive.
If the card comes up for a business-related question it means that you are on top of your game. You are self-confident, find it easy to get your point across and will energize others with your drive and vision. Being successful and winning the respect of others is very important to you and you are in search of acclaim and perhaps a promotion. If you are a woman it may also mean that you are holding your own in a field that is traditionally more male-dominated. If you are a male it could mean that you are getting the support of a strong woman, perhaps a female boss who is willing to back you.
If the card stands for yourself it means you are feeling powerful and self-confident. You want it all, and you’re going to achieve what you put your mind to. You’re not afraid to take a chance, whether it is in love, in starting a new chapter in your life or in your job. Others will admire you for your fearlessness, sound judgment and self-respect.
If the card is uncovered in an adverse or blockage position it could mean that you are in danger of becoming arrogant and entitled. You are possessive and jealous when it comes to love and aggressive and vengeful when you feel that others are not giving you the attention and respect you think you deserve. You are prone to hold grudges for a long time and to get lost fuming at the perceived slights of others. At the same time you tend to be oblivious to the fact that your quick temper, sarcasm and anger is hurting others. Alternatively you are battling with a lack of self-respect. You are slipping into the role of a complete door-mat and allow others to take advantage of you and despise you, because you are unwilling or unable to stand up for yourself and try to avoid needed confrontations at all costs.
It's been good therapy these past few weeks drawing men and women as equals, drawing people from all over the world who are smart and beautiful and kind...
I've got a whole bunch of Harry Potter art that people went wild for where I know I'm less proud of some of them than of another original piece that was just better art, but that got very little reaction.
